Protecting your PC
On-line banking is very safe and we've taken great care to make our site secure. Your PC is the one link in the chain over which we have no control, so to help protect you and your PC, we've put together these hints and tips:
- tell us immediately if you believe someone else may have access to your customer security information
- we recommend that you purchase anti-virus software and take regular updates to that software, to protect your PC from virus attacks
- we recommend that you consider purchasing personal firewall software to protect against unauthorised remote access to information held on your PC
- don't login to your accounts from a PC in a public place such as a cyber cafe, college or work, be aware of the possibility of another person watching your logon and noting your access details
- never leave your PC unattended when you are logged on to your accounts
- always log off using the 'log off' link at the top left of the screen
- if you are disconnected from your ISP when you are logged in, always log back on immediately, even if you had finished your banking, and log off correctly to ensure the connection is dropped before leaving your PC
- to use our Internet Banking service you must have cookies enabled on your browser. If you are an Internet Explorer user and you have version 5.0 or 5.5 you have the choice of enabling session cookies whilst declining persistent cookies. We will work with the persistent cookies option set to decline
- if you are an IE version 5, or later, user and you do not want to accept cookies from sites other than us you can set us up as a trusted site. That means you can switch cookies on for the Bank and leave them switched off for other sites. For instructions on how to do this contact our Technical Helpdesk at:
